The Animals

Meet the residents of Jasper's Rest.

Each one arrived with their own story. Here, they all share the same future — safe paddocks, full hay nets and as much time as they need.

Jasper's Rest sometimes works with other rescue centres.

A badly emaciated 18yr old stockhorse was spotted at Gympie sales May 2026 and taken in by another rescue. "Cormac" (a 3rd century Irish King celebrated for the splendor, wisdom, and generosity of his reign) is incredibly sweet and deserving of safe retirement. The only other place this lovely bloke will end up is with a dealer or a slaughterhouse and we had to stop that from happening. You can tell he's had a very hard life and flinches if you move too quickly, signalling constant abuse.

Time for him to feel safe, be loved and care for his aging body.

‘Thomas’ Kiki, 9yr Arabian WB gelding · Rescued 2018

‘Thomas’ Kiki

Long-term resident
9yr Arabian WB gelding · Rescued 2018

Whilst teaching at an equestrian centre one day, Chloe witnessed a small bay gelding being whipped constantly whilst on a lunge. He was beyond terrified and the frustration from the trainer was very apparent. After speaking with the trainer and meeting the unnamed gelding, Chloe offered to buy him and left with him that afternoon. Thomas still to this day is a very sensitive and nervous fellow but extremely friendly and the clown of the herd.

Ori, 8yr Warmblood mare · Rescued 2018

Ori

Long-term resident
8yr Warmblood mare · Rescued 2018

Ori was born missing an eye. The owner believed she would not make a good performance horse and was to be euthanised however Chloe offered to buy the foal and keep her safe.

Bridie, 23yr QH broodmare · Rescued 2025

23yr QH broodmare · Rescued 2025

Bridie came to us after her owner passed away and she could no longer have foals so was going to be put down by her new owner.

Cillian (Courage), 9yr OTTB gelding · Rescued 2026

Cillian (Courage)

In rehabilitation
9yr OTTB gelding · Rescued 2026

Ex racehorse first rescued by Save a Horse Australia. Cillian was days from dying due to starvation when he was picked up by SAHA. It's a miracle he survived. Chloe put in EOI to SAHA as soon as she saw him, vowing that he would never be hungry again. He has just begun his psychological retraining with Chloe.

Ronin, 9yr WB x TB gelding · Rescued 2022

Ronin

Long-term resident
9yr WB x TB gelding · Rescued 2022

Ronin is a BIG, sweet boy who has Shivers. Because of this he was unwanted by those wanting a performance horse, which is what he was bred for. Chloe watched him for months on the market and then purchased him as he had a good chance of being put down or sold for slaughter.

Caolàn (Nico), 8yr Warmblood gelding · Rescued 2024

Caolàn (Nico)

In rehabilitation
8yr Warmblood gelding · Rescued 2024

Nico was captured on film being whipped multiple times by one of Australia's most successful dressage trainers. He had residual behavioural issues and was sent to Chloe from a trainer friend who ended up with him and knew he was not at all safe for your average horse person.

Oonagh (Rhythm), 13yr Standardbred broodmare · Rescued 2026

Oonagh (Rhythm)

In rehabilitation
13yr Standardbred broodmare · Rescued 2026

One of the worst cases of neglect and starvation we have. Oonagh was housed in a bare paddock with a very aggressive stallion for years. She was rescued severely underweight… and then had a foal! Amazingly she and the foal both survived.

Donal (Harry), 4yr OTTB unraced gelding · Rescued 2025

Donal (Harry)

Long-term resident
4yr OTTB unraced gelding · Rescued 2025

Donal is the quietest horse you'll ever meet. Due to a knee injury he sustained while training to be a racehorse, Donal was going to be put down as he is unrideable but we intervened. He's Oonagh's paddock mate and has already had a calming effect on her, he's also showing her that other horses can be your friend.

Slim (Resolvo), 8yr OTTB gelding · Rescued 2024

Slim (Resolvo)

Long-term resident
8yr OTTB gelding · Rescued 2024

Slim has a broken pelvis sustained in a barrier accident and a bowed tendon. Obviously unrideable, he was to be put down or sent through the sales but we took him in before this could happen.

Saoirse (Prayer), 7yr stockhorse mare · Rescued 2025

The scars all over Saoirse tell of her trauma. She was found extremely emaciated and terrified of humans.

Finn (Trick), 12yr OTTB · Rescued 2025

Finn (Trick)

Settling in
12yr OTTB · Rescued 2025

Trick won nearly $200,000 and was retired at 9 then sent to a beginner home. Unfortunately he degloved his back leg and was surrendered to SAHA where we found him and brought him home.

Shay (Domino), Approx 7yr Palouse pony gelding · Rescued 2025

Shay (Domino)

In rehabilitation
Approx 7yr Palouse pony gelding · Rescued 2025

Shay went through Laidley sales 12 times and has been obviously tortured, a former owner remarked that she should have shot him.

Rosie, 11yr Warmblood mare · Rescued 2017

Rosie

Long-term resident
11yr Warmblood mare · Rescued 2017

Rosie was wild until she was 5 and was then broken and sent straight out to be a performance horse… however she had other ideas. She was sent to Chloe to be reeducated but she loved Rosie and her wildness so Chloe purchased the mare.

Morgan, 15yr WB mare · Advanced Dressage · Rescued 2016

Morgan

Long-term resident
15yr WB mare · Advanced Dressage · Rescued 2016

Morgan was to be put down due to being classed as a “dangerous horse” by her dressage trainer. Chloe intervened and she came to live at Jasper's Rest 10 years ago.
